Many years ago it was decided that the society
should build an 'O' gauge model railway as soon as space allowed.
With the sale of our former club layout 'Idleforde Junction' and the
smaller size of the new 'OO' gauge layout, it was realised that we
finally had the space to start work on the new 'O' gauge layout.
The society had, during the preceding years, purchased a couple of
locomotives and a quantity of PECO track so work started during the
early months of 2007.
The scenic section of the layout is 6 metres long,
comprising four, 1500mm long x 800mm wide baseboards, mounted on 1200mm
high trestles fitted with castors for easy movement around the
clubrooms. The heavy duty baseboards and trestles have
been constructed by our good friends at The
Goods Yard. Additional baseboards, containing a flipper unit
will be added at each end.
The track plan is to be based loosely on Great Central mainline
practice with a single island platform station at one end. A goods
facility and loco servicing point will also be included in the design.

Recent Progress ......
August
2008
Gary Atkinson is progressing well with the platform level station
building and the level crossing gates are in the final stages of
construction by Richard Barrow. Steve Searson is constructing the
signal box which will be placed adjacent to the level crossing.
Phil and Richard from The
Goods Yard have kindly donated a collection of around 20 kit built
wagons and some track to help us with this project.
September 2008
Richard
B and Richard D have been working on the embankment along the back of
the layout and this is progressing well. Constructed from Polystyrene
blocks it disguises the storage sidings all along the scenic area.
The signal box has been completed and will be fitted with internal
detail in due course. Steve Searson is now working on the
refurbishment of the wagons previously donated by The
Goods Yard. The platform level station building is progressing
well and Gary has also started constructing the over bridge at the left
hand end of the layout.
